Turkish Cinematography: History, Development and Influence (Paperback, in Macedonian)

A new textbook titled Turkish Cinematography: History, Development and Influence (Турската кинематографија: Историја, развој и влијание) has been published. It was written in Macedonian by Prof. Dr. Oktay Ahmed and Prof. Dr. Osman Emin, faculty members of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature in Skopje.

The 237-page book was printed by MARSAZH Publishing as a publication of the Blaje Koneski Faculty of Philology (University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia).

Although it was prepared as a core textbook for the 2026/2027 academic year for the course on Turkish Cinematography in the Culturology programme of the Department, it also serves as a significant reference book for all readers interested in Turkish cinema.

The book presents a chronological overview of the development of Turkish cinematography from its emergence in the late nineteenth century to the present day. It offers a broad historical panorama, from the first screenings in the Ottoman period and the early Republican years to the Yeşilçam era, the cinematic perspectives of the 2000s and productions on digital platforms.

It also contains detailed sections on the major genres in Turkish cinema, film festivals, the most-watched films and series, adaptations of Turkish literature, leading directors and actors, cooperation between Turkey and North Macedonia in film production, and the regional influence of Turkish TV series.

At the end of the book, readers will find assessment questions for students, activity suggestions and examples of film posters.

The new publication examines the development of Turkish culture through cinema and its reflections in the Balkans from an academic perspective.
